K-pop means ‘Korean Popular Music’, but it has developed into a general term for music and dance. It’s a mix between East Asian and Western music styles.
In the 1940’s Korean music started to change shape. When North and South Korea parted ways and more Western influences in music started to filter through, it created this exciting new music genre.
Slowly, Korean music artists started to have success abroad and released their music for the world to enjoy.
Today the K-pop scene is a massive industry and the music and dance go hand in hand. They produce the most highly trained singers who also have to be amazing dancers – the standard is so high!
If you aren’t sure what the dance style is like, take a look at one of the most famous Korean boy bands BTS in action in one of their dance rehearsals. We’d obviously tailor the dance to be suitable for the level and ages of the students we’d be teaching!
