DIWALI DANCE WORKSHOPS

Our Diwali Dance Workshops bring the Festival of Lights to life!

Our Diwali School Workshops are very popular within Early years settings, schools, colleges and adult groups. They are multicultural, informative and we bring to life a really special festival in the Indian calendar.

These Diwali themed workshops feature Bollywood dance, which is a very popular dance style. It’s high energy and not too girly, so boys totally love it too.

Not sure what Bollywood dance looks like? Take a look at our Bollywood dance duet below:

Diwali School Workshops

The Hindu Festival of Lights is a wonderful celebration, and has loads of different aspects that can be taught in classroom activities. As well as dance there is music, art and storytelling – so much that can be linked to Diwali time.

Our workshops incorporate a mix of talking, showing props and costumes, dressing up, and lots of dancing!

Rama and Sita story

In our Diwali dance workshops we start by telling the traditional story of Rama and Sita and talk about how it links with Diwali. We then show Diva Lamps that we bring in so that the students can see the patterns, shapes and colours of the different styles they can come in.

Dressing up

Our Zest dance teachers always wear an Indian costume. We talk about what the Zest teachers is wearing and the significance of their Indian style clothing. The jewellery and Bindis all relates to Hindu Gods and Goddesses.

Next we get the students dressed up, which they all love to do! We bring in coined and plain Indian scarves in vibrant colours for everyone to wear. It feels exciting dressing up, and transports everyone to another country.

It also looks great in any pictures or videos the school might take, to see all their students dressed up.

Diwali Dance Workshop themes

We have two themes for the dance part of the workshop, so let us know which you would prefer to have for your school.

Storytelling through dance workshops

In our storytelling workshops we create the Rama and Sita story through an epic dance routine. We use the whole class to create the different characters in the story. It culminates with the whole class doing a Bollywood dance routine as a celebration. This represents the end of the story when Rama and Sita follow the Diva lights and return home from the forest.

Bollywood dance workshops

In our Bollywood dance workshops we start by teaching different Mudras (traditional hand positions). We teach lots of Bhangra moves to get everyone really warmed up the blood pumping.

Next we teach a Bollywood dance routine for the whole class to enjoy, incorporating lots of the Bhangra moves. It will be high energy, fun and always looks spectacular in the end.

Assembly

We can also incorporate a Diwali themed assembly into the day. Either at the start of the day to introduce the themed to everyone in the school. Or have it at the end of the day where we get each class to perform their Indian dance routine to everyone else!

Bollywood Film Projects

Bollywood got it’s name from the city of Bombay (now called Mumbai) where they make 100 + Bollywood films a year.

So why not make your own Bollywood school movie? Using multi media disciplines and a team of our Zest teachers, we can help you make a short film using dance, drama, music and film.

The children can get involved from every level. Whether they want to perform, or are happier making props, writing scripts or shooting behind the camera.

This can be done in a week or as a longer project with regular visits to your school.

Bollywood Performances

You could also add in a performance at your school from our professional Bollywood dance company, Bollywood Vibes  who we are linked with.

This give the students a chance to see Bollywood dance live, and experience the energy and beautiful costumes. Our dancers would also lead the Bollywood dance workshops in the day.

Click here for more information on Bollywood Vibes dance company and please contact Zest for prices, as we can arrange a special performance and workshop package for your school or gorup.
