MAKE A MUSIC VIDEO

Make a music video with your class – to remember forever!

Our ‘Make a music video’ workshop experiences are perfect for KS2/KS3 year groups, or even whole schools.

Every music video has a great choreographer, and we are here to make your video UNBELIEVABLE!

They make the perfect end of year gift as everyone will take part in it and have a memory of their class to keep forever.

Dance is so creative, so there are no boundaries to the film we will create with you…

Take a look at a leavers video we created below:

(Filmed in a half day session, shot and edited on an iphone and created with our sister company, Dance Parties)

Possible themes and songs

As a school, or class, it’s up to you to choose a song that you’d like to use for the make a music video workshop. It should be a popular song that the children know and will engage with.

Some popular ideas:

  • High School Musical
  • Taylor Swift songs
  • Ed Sheeran songs
  • Michael Jackson songs
  • Happy – Pharrell Williams
  • I like to move it – Will I Am
  • Waka Waka
  • Musicals
  • Ghostbusters
  • Line dance
  • Christmas theme

But the possibilities are endless, so let us know your ideas and we can work with you to make it a reality….

We need to know your chosen song in advance so we can choreograph your dance before we get to you.

Breakdown of the video shoot day

  • Intro from your Zest expert on how the shoot will run and the fun you’ll all have
  • Dance warm up
  • Teaching the main choreography (usually the chorus of the song and can be more)
  • Filming smaller groups and lip syncing
  • Filming the main choreography in different locations around the school
  • Cool down and stretch

Great for boys and girls

We make the dance suitable for everyone to enjoy and get involved in. If you have lots of boys, we won’t make it girly! Or if you want to do separate sections for boys and girls, we can do that.

How many dance teachers do you get?

We usually provide one Zest dance teacher who also does the filming on the day. They are experts in our ‘Make a music video’ workshop experience.

But for our Level 3 video package, we can provide an extra dance teacher who can work closely with groups. Or if you have multiple classes in the school that want to get involved, an extra dance teacher is vital to have there to help teach the dance, before the filming begins.

Level of dance

We will adapt the level of dance to suit the participants. Having over 20 years experience of teaching dance, we know the right levels for different year groups.

Or let us know if you have some talented pupils that need pushing, or others that might need some easier dance step options.

Costume

It’s up to you if you want to wear a costume for your video – it does look great.

Maybe you can start with your school uniform on, then later in the video be in your own clothes?

Or maybe you pick one style of clothing for everyone, or choose one colour so you look like a pop band – it’s up to you!

How Long does the filming take?

We have two options:

Half day 3hrs (morning or afternoon)

In the half day shoots, we will teach a simple dance phrase (usually just the chorus of the song you choose). Then we will film fun smaller group shots around the school and some close up lip syncing sections with smaller groups. We will also film the main dance section with everyone, in different locations.

Full day (from 9am till 3pm)

In the full day shoots we will have lots more time to achieve some polished dance video content.

At the start of the day we will chat to you about the process and get you all inspired. You can let us know any creative ideas that you’d like to try and we will film lots of different shots for you throughout the day. This will make for a great end edit.

We will teach the chorus section of dance, as well as a few other dance sections. You could have separate girls and boys sections, or some interesting creative dance for the start and ending to the video. Or maybe you’d like to choreograph some sections yourself? We will have time to support and help you with this.

We will also take time to perfect your smaller group sections or help with the lip syncing.

Once we know your chosen song we will get inspired have more of an idea of the possibilities…

Space

We would need the use of the school hall or a studio space for the main part of the filming. Enough room to fit everyone in if you are a class of 30.

This is to teach the main body of the dance routine to everyone. At least 2hrs is needed for this part.

Then we would need to have access to some other areas of the school to do some other fun shots. We promise not to get in the way of other classes or be too noisy, and we will work around your time requirements. Some areas we could use are:

  • Playground
  • Dinner hall
  • Hallway
  • Entrance
  • Empty classroom

Equipment

We bring it all with us so you don’t need to provide anything.

We shoot on an iphone which produces great quality videos.

We bring a tripod and lights for close up shots (if needed).

Editing

We edit the end video together which usually takes 1 week. So not long before you can take a look 🙂

We use a few editing tricks and effects in the final edit. We will discuss the look of your final video with you before doing this, so you can let us know your vision too.

After a week we will send you the draft video. So you can have the chance to give us feedback on the edit and suggest any changes before we send you the final video a few days later.

Where will the video end up?

We usually post the end video online to YouTube. This will be in a private link that only your school will get. No one else will see the video, unless you give them the link. So it can remain as private as you like – you are in control.

Or if you don’t want it online at all that’s fine. Just let us know and we can send it to you in another way.
