Try this traditional folk dance to get your legs moving and body spinning!
At Zest we celebrate different cultures from around the world. Our Ukrainian dance workshops will give you a chance to learn this energetic folk dance and listen to the wonderful music.
The war in Ukraine has devastated so many lives and is heartbreaking to see. With lots of Ukrainian families moving to the UK, we want to support and celebrate them. Dance is a great way to bring people together, learn about a new culture and make people feel seen and wanted.
When teaching our Ukrainian dance workshops we use traditional music. It’s got a fast beat and complex rhythms.
There are many different regions of Ukraine which have their own slight variations on the dance style. Traditionally it’s a folk dance, which incorporates circles, lines and fast footsteps.
There are influences of the Polka which is a partner dance and some Kozak (Cossack) dance with lots of low level leg kicks which require a lot of strength!
Our Ukrainian dance workshops are great for all ages and we can tailor the workshops for all abilities.
At the start of the workshops we talk to the participants about Ukrainian dance and give a bit of background about the country where the dance is from. We feel it’s important to educate people on where the dance has evolved from, as well as teaching a practical lesson.
We will show some photos of dancers dressed in traditional dress and your Zest dance teacher will also dress in a flavour of the country, to give an all rounded experience for your students.
If you’d like any more info on our dance workshops, just let us know.
Why not treat your pupils to a dance workshop? We are based in London but have teachers across the UK to bring our workshops to you.
