Learn a dance in a day

If you want to learn a dance in a day we can certainly help with that. We love the challenge of teaching a finished dance which is ready to perform at the end of the day.

We were asked to come into Catshill Middle school in Worcester to teach a group of year 7 and 8 students for the day.

They wanted a Street dance to perform at the Bromsgrove Festival in a months time, so they called on Zest to help with the challenge.

Girls group

The group were split into a girls group in the morning for their workshop. This was a lyrical dance to the “Rockabye” song. Plus they learnt the finale part to the “Can’t stop the feeling” song.

Boys group

Then we had a boys group in the afternoon for their workshop. It was a dance to the remix of “Shape of you” song, as well as the finale part which was the same as the girl’s group.

We then had them all back together at the end of the day to put the whole dance together. There were a lot of different sections and formations to get straight, so it took a lot of concentration from the students.

They all worked really hard as it was a challenging dance and a lot to learn and remember in a day. I hope they practice without Zest teachers there, and don’t forget it as we can’t be there on the day of the performance…

Here are some photos and a video clip of the dance. It was performed in an assembly the same afternoon that they learnt it.

Fast forward a few weeks and we have since heard that the performance went really well at the festival. The performance was out in the town with lots of friends and family watching and cheering on. Well done Catshill students!

Check out what’s going on in the line up at the Bromsgrove Festival this year…
