South American arts week

A South American arts week was needed, and we were over the moon to be invited back to Kings Hawford School for our third year as their specialist dance workshop providers.Olympics in Rio

This year their theme was linking to the Olympics happening in Rio, so we got our Samba Carnival vibe on with all our South American arts week dance workshops.

As we were teaching so many classes in intensive dance workshops over the week, we had a team of three Zest dance teachers working together.

We worked with years 4,5,6 intensively over three days, on their South American dance workshops. We needed to produce some brilliant dances for the enormous performance on the last day. They invite hundreds of friends and family, and they even built a specially erected marquee for it. The children at this school are a credit to their teachers, they are so polite and well behaved, but really bright and so eager to learn. It made our job so fun and rewarding!

We worked those year groups really hard, and together with input from the children, they produced some fantastic dance performances. We focused on Samba dance, as this is what is performed in the Rio Carnival. It’s a series of intricate foot patterns, twists, spins and jumps.

It was such  hot few days that we were sweltering doing all the high energy dancing!

We also did shorter taster workshops for the other classes in the school so they could have some fun with us and try out some Samba dance.

The performances were attended by so many friends and family, it was amazing to see such support. The whole school had also learnt a dance together taught by one of their regular teachers. It bought a tear to our eyes to watch all the smiling faces 🙂
