Spanish Dance Day

Three Zest teachers headed up to Stockingford Primary School for their Spanish dance day.
The whole school had lots of different workshops happening during the day, to learn all about Spain – the Geography, listening to music, food tasting, and of course loads of dance workshops.

It was a very large school so they needed three teachers to teach all the classes simultaneously, and we wanted different year groups to experience different styles of Spanish dance. We will a full day with them, from 9am till 3pm.

Salsa

One teacher (Michela) is an amazing professional Salsa and Latin dancer, and very experienced teacher. She taught Salsa dancing to her classes. Salsa is a partner dance, so it’s great to encourage boys and girls to work well together. It’s a series of foot patterns and spins with your partner.

Flamenco

One teacher (Hugh) is a trained ballet dancer and has worked with many incredible ballet companies all over the world during his professional career. He also teachers (and performs) Flamenco, Russian Cossak, Ukranian, English Sailor dance – a great mix! He dressed up in a male Flamenco outfit and taught Flamenco dance, complete with Castanets! It’s great to have male teachers as it really inspires boys to get into dancing, and see that it’s not just something girls do.

Paso Doble

Melanie taught the Paso Doble which is a dance based on a Matador and a Bull. It has lots of powerful moves with an imaginary cape that you circle around your body. She had the Early years and KS1 classes, and they loved getting into the roles and chasing each other as the bulls in the dance!

We had a fantastic day and it looked like all the children did too.

Please get in touch if you would like to have a Spanish dance day at your school.
