Chinese New Year Workshops

Around February time is the time to celebrate the new Luna calendar, and here at Zest schools have been booking up loads of Chinese New Year workshops.

Props

We bring lots of props to show the children in the workshops.

By showing props and talking about the relevance and significance of them, it really gives a well rounded picture of the country we are studying. This in turn helps with the child’s learning.

We have lanterns, posters, a Chinese flag, a popular drum which is played by children all over China, and the best thing of all… Zack the Dragon. Zack is a dragon puppet who loves to dance and entertain the children (especially KS1 – he has been stealing the limelight!)

Costume

Your teacher will also wear a typically Chinese dress. They also let one of your students dress up in a Chinese outfit.

That’s all before we even start the dance workshops!

Chinese Fan Dance

Then of course we teach a Chinese Fan dance which involves team work and making beautiful shapes using their bodies and the fans – all set to classical Chinese opera music to create a sense of drama to the sessions.

Here’s their teacher all dressed up and ready for her workshop!
